‘Two Animals’ imagines two breathing cycles: the accordionist and their instrument. The breathing of the singing accordionist is written in counterpoint to the rhythm of their accordion’s bellows. I picture two different animals sitting together, their breath moving in and out of synchronicity, until one is subsumed into the other. It was inspired by a period of time recovering from an accident, where my only escape from my own mind came through meditation.
