Overview
Turn-of-the-century Vienna was the cradle of a dizzying musical and cultural revolution, and the string quartets that open and close tonight’s concert vividly capture its essence. Anton Webern’s Langsamer Satz is refined and romantic – but Alban Berg’s Lyric Suite, written just two decades later, is intense, modernist and utterly thrilling. Also tonight, we’re premiering a new Psappha commission by George Stevenson along with two new works from exciting young British composers created for our Composing For scheme, and taking an evocative journey into nature with Charlotte Bray.
Into the Music at 6.40pm (Free to ticket-holders)
Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade, Nina Danon and George Stevenson join Psappha’s Tim Williams and the RNCM’s Douglas Jarman to introduce tonight’s concert.
