Bethan Morgan-Williams Traces of a Disco
Anthony Gilbert Rose luisante
Ryan Latimer Slink and Stride World premiere
Hans Abrahamsen Three Little Nocturnes
Helmut Lachenmann Toccatina
David John Roche New work World premiere, Psappha commission
World-class accordionist Miloš Milivojević brings out his box of tricks for a programme that runs from Anthony Gilbert’s radiant Gallic diversion and Hans Abrahamsen’s moonlit trilogy to a pair of pieces written just for us: David John Roche’s exhilarating new work, a Psappha commission, and the cardiac flows of Athanasia Kontou’s systole/diastole.
Also tonight, pianist Ben Powell and percussionist Tim Williams premiere a playful piece by Ryan Latimer; Benedict Holland tackles Lachenmann’s taut, edgy Toccatina for solo violin; and we’ll return to Bethan Morgan-Williams’ Traces of a Disco, which we premiered at the Whitworth three years ago. Tom McKinney joins us to present this concert, for which – government guidance permitting – we’re hoping to welcome audiences back to Hallé St Peter’s. Watch this space!
