Anna Thorvaldsdottir In the Light of Air
Schoenberg Pierrot Lunaire
Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s music seems drawn from the very earth of her native Iceland – and never more so than in this deep, hypnotic and spellbinding masterpiece. Emerging gradually over 40 minutes and four movements – Luminance, Serenity, Existence and Remembrance – In the Light of Air will be introduced with a short mindfulness meditation by Amaradaya, ordained member of the Triratna Buddhist Order. The work that follows could hardly be more different: Arnold Schoenberg’s 21 snapshot glimpses into the mind and the madness of a woman on the brink, a undisputed landmark in 20th-century music.
